Origin
The Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii', better known as the Red Banana Plant, has its origin in East Africa and Southeast Asia. This type of plant primarily grows in tropical and subtropical climates. The plant belongs to the Musaceae family, known for its colourful and exotic flowers and fruits.

Characteristics
The Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' stands out due to its large, striking reddish-brown leaves that can reach lengths of up to three meters. The plant grows rapidly and can reach heights of up to 6 meters under optimal conditions. A distinguishing feature of this plant is its upright growth pattern with a single trunk, compared to other banana species which often have multiple trunks growing from the ground. Furthermore, the plant does not produce shoots or runners.

Care
The Red Banana Plant requires lots of sunlight and should be planted in well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Additionally, the plant needs lots of water, especially during dry and warm periods, but the soil should be allowed to dry out lightly between watering. It is also important to regularly fertilise the plant to stimulate growth and blooming. In winter, the plant needs to be protected from the cold, since it is not frost resistant.
