Origin
The Ficus elastica 'Burgundy', also known as the rubber plant, originates from the tropical regions of Southeast Asia and India. This plant belongs to the Moraceae family, which contains over 1000 different species.

Characteristics
The Ficus elastica 'Burgundy' is a popular indoor plant known for its shiny, dark leaves that have a burgundy colour. The leaves can grow up to 30 centimetres long. Given the right conditions, the plant can grow several metres high. The rubber plant can be kept both indoors and outdoors, but prefers a spot with plenty of indirect light.

Care
The Ficus elastica 'Burgundy' prefers an environment with indirect sunlight and a well-draining potting soil. The plant needs moderate watering, with reduced water in the winter months. The rubber plant requires humus-rich, well-drained soil and benefits from regular fertilising in the growing season. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's important to let the soil dry out between watering. Cleaning the leaves with a damp cloth can also contribute to the health and growth of the plant.
