DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Dracaena gymea, otherwise known as the Gymea Lily, originates from Australia, particularly from the coastal areas of New South Wales. Thus, it is adapted to a climate with moderate temperatures and regular rainfall. This plant has been cultivated for thousands of years by the aboriginals for its attractive flowers and culinary use.

Characteristics
The Dracaena gymea possesses a unique appearance with long, ribbon-like leaves that can reach up to 1 meter in length. The plant can grow to heights of 4 to 6 meters. The stem is reddish-brown to grey in colour and has a resin-like substance on its surface. This plant is also commonly referred to as the Dracaena lily because of its large, striking flowers that appear in the summer. The flowers are brightly red to purple in colour and carry a distinctive, sweet fragrance.

Care
The Dracaena gymea is relatively easy to care for. This plant prefers a sunny location, but can also grow partly in the shade. It is necessary to regularly water the plant, but it's important to avoid letting the plant stand in stagnant water. The Dracaena gymea does not have specific nutritional needs and thrives well in well-draining soil. During the growing season, the plant can benefit from a monthly addition of a general plant fertiliser. The plant can withstand frost to a considerable extent, but will require protection in extreme cold conditions.
