Origin
The Aloe dichotoma, better known as the quiver tree, is originally from the arid areas of South Africa and Namibia. The tree is a prominent symbol in many cultures due to its striking appearance and adaptability to dry conditions.
Characteristics
The Aloe dichotoma is a distinctive and recognisable plant due to its fibrous bark and tall trunk that branches out into different sections. The tips of each branch are adorned with dichotomously arranged leaves that are thick and fleshy, a characteristic feature of succulent plants for water storage. The quiver tree flowers in the winter, and ribbon-like yellow-orange flowers then appear on the branches.
Care
The maintenance of the Aloe dichotoma requires attention to its preference for dry conditions. The soil needs to be well draining to prevent root rot. The plant needs a lot of light and direct sunlight is beneficial in the summer months. Care must be taken when watering, too much water can be harmful to the plant. In the winter months, it is advisable not to water at all.
