DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Citrus aurantifolia 'Lima Verde', better known as the green lime, originally travelled from the Indonesian Archipelago to the Mediterranean region via trading ships in the Middle Ages. Later, the plant was carried by Spanish and Portuguese sailors to the Caribbean, South America and Florida, where it still grows today.

Characteristics
The 'Lima Verde' is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach up to 5 metres in height. The plant produces small, green fruits that resemble lemons, but are smaller and rounder. These fruits have a strong aroma, a sour taste and are high in vitamin C. The plant has sharp thorns on its branches and its leaves are oval, dark green and shiny.

Care
The 'Lima Verde' requires a lot of sunlight and grows best in well-draining soil. Overwatering should be avoided as the plant is sensitive to root rot. The plant performs best at temperatures between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius and must be protected from frost. Care also includes regular pruning to maintain the shape and to remove dead or damaged wood.
