We would like to start with the ever-popular Eucalyptus. Read on to find out more about this Mediterranean beauty.

Background of the plant

A Eucalyptus creates an instant Mediterranean feel. The wonderfully menthol-scented plant has a sacred significance for the Aborigines. According to them, the Eucalyptus represents the subdivision into the underworld, earth and heaven. In the spiritual world, the Eucalyptus has a purifying significance. Negative energies are said to disappear when a eucalyptus leaf is burned at that location.

The more than 600 varieties of shrubs and trees are native to warm Australia and its surroundings. Fortunately, a number of varieties are hardy, so we can enjoy these plants in cooler climates too.

Refined leaves and a graceful look of the Eucalyptus gunnii

Eucalyptus gunnii is one of the most popular species thanks to its hardiness. It can withstand temperatures of approximately -5°C.

This evergreen variety has beautifully fine leathery leaves and makes a perfect solitary eye-catcher. In theory, you do not need to prune it, but any offshoots can be removed to maintain its shape. Eucalytus gunnii is a very suitable pot plant with fine round leaves.

Water and location

The leaves of the Eucalyptus tree hold a lot of moisture and therefore require very little extra water. Especially during the cold winter months, the potting soil should be kept virtually dry. It also likes to be placed in the sun, sheltered from the wind.
